How Masonry Contractors Louisville Works

Masonry Contractors Louisville repairs and builds brick, block and stone for homeowners across Louisville and Jefferson County. Most of our calls are repairs: mortar that has washed out of a south wall, a chimney losing bricks above the roofline, front steps pulling away from the porch, a retaining wall leaning into the driveway. We also build new: stone veneer on a facade, block and brick garden walls, mailboxes, steps and porch piers.

Louisville is an old brick city. Point2Homes, summarizing Census figures, puts the median home here at 1969, and about one in three houses was built before 1960. Old masonry and new masonry behave differently, so the first question on any job is what the wall is made of and how it was built.

How a job runs

  • We look first. Someone comes out, looks at the wall, chimney or steps, and works out why it failed, whether that is water, settling, the wrong mortar or age.
  • You get a written quote. It lists each task: mortar removal and repointing by area, brick replacement, flashing, drainage, demolition, so you can compare it with another bid line by line.
  • The mortar fits the building. On older soft brick we use a softer, lime-rich mix. On modern brick and block we use a standard mix. We explain which one and why.
  • Permits and reviews are checked. If your house sits in one of Louisville Metro's local preservation districts, exterior masonry work goes through a Certificate of Appropriateness. A retaining wall over 4 feet needs a building permit. We check what applies to your address before the work is scheduled.
  • Clean-up is part of the price. Mortar dust, broken brick and spoils leave with us.

If a small repair will hold for years, we say so instead of quoting a rebuild.
